Introduction

Behind every scholarship success story is someone who went first.

For Tautvydas Poniskaitis, CEO and Founder of BaltixSport, that journey began in the small Lithuanian town of Vilkaviškis, took root in the UK, and led all the way to the football pitches and classrooms of the United States.

This is more than a story of athletic ambition. It’s about access, opportunity, and returning home with a mission: to help other Baltic athletes do the same—no matter where they live.

Who Is Tautvydas Poniskaitis?

Tautvydas was born in Vilkaviškis, Lithuania, where football wasn’t just a sport—it was a way of life. But like many teens across Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia, he wasn’t sure what came next after high school.

Everything changed when his family relocated to the UK. That move opened up a world of opportunity—including access to a sports scholarship agency that helped place him at a U.S. university. It’s a route he knows would have been much harder to access if he’d remained in Lithuania.

“I was lucky. Most players back home never get connected to these agencies—not because they’re not good enough, but because the system isn’t built for them.”

From the UK to a U.S. Football Scholarship

With guidance from a UK-based agency, Tautvydas began his scholarship journey:

  • Researching colleges and athletic divisions
  • Understanding the NCAA, NAIA, and NJCAA systems
  • Creating his highlight video and player CV
  • Preparing for standardized testing and eligibility paperwork
  • Navigating interviews, offers, and the U.S. visa process

Eventually, he secured a football scholarship to a U.S. college, launching his life as an international student-athlete.

Life as a Student-Athlete in the U.S.

Tautvydas quickly discovered that the U.S. college sports system was unlike anything in Europe.

“The structure, the facilities, the coaching—it was another level. But what impacted me most was the mindset: student-athletes were given every chance to grow on and off the pitch.”

He balanced training, travel, and academics while building friendships and connections from around the world. After earning his degree, he continued his playing career at a high level in the UK while working in the scholarship industry.

The Birth of BaltixSport

That realization led to the founding of BaltixSport, an agency built specifically to serve athletes in Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia.

BaltixSport is:

  • Founded by Baltic athletes, for Baltic athletes
  • Starting with football and expanding into more sports
  • Connecting local clubs and academies to U.S. coaches
  • Educating both families and coaches on scholarship affordability
  • Focused on players with potential—not just prestige

“We know how to position players who may not be on national teams—but still have everything it takes to succeed in the U.S.”

Why His Story Matters

When parents or players ask, When should I start the recruitment process? or “Do I need to be a superstar to get a scholarship?” Tautvydas has the answers—not just from research, but from real experience.

  • He’s lived the challenges of relocation and system navigation
  • He’s benefited from the right support—and knows what happens when it’s missing
  • He’s seen how the system overlooks Baltic athletes—and is working to change it

“BaltixSport exists because I know there’s a better way. There’s so much talent in the Baltics—we just need to open the right doors.”

Final Thoughts: A Mission with Purpose

Now based in the UK, Tautvydas is building a bridge between overlooked talent in the Baltics and life-changing opportunities in the U.S. Through BaltixSport, he’s helping athletes—from Vilnius to Riga to Tallinn—turn potential into a passport to a brighter future.

His message to families?

“You don’t need to move abroad to access opportunity. You just need someone who believes in your talent—and knows how to help you showcase it.”
